gelatin, wool felt, steel
Gelatin is a traditional mold making material used in the production of architectural ornamentation before the invention of silicones. Plaster shops producing ornamentation for Frank Gehry and Louis Sullivan were set up next to the stock yards so as to have easy access to gelatin. The felt and gelatin in my work are permeable membranes, together they are liminal space. These membranes engage an in-between space, a space that is a conjunction, an “and.” This is a space of gelatin and felt, this is monumental and miniature, this is disgusting and beautiful, this is decaying and being preserved.
